Energy efficiency

Phoenix Contact Middle East joined a Sustainable program with HSBC in 2020 called “Living Business Middle East”. It calls on all manufacturers and businesses to reduce their environmental impact. It also supports them in their transition to a more sustainable business model. Since then, they have been working together with their partners and have initiated numerous sustainable projects. The company was selected as a runner up in the mid-size category of the Living Business Program 2021 Finals. It was among 17 candidates from across the GCC.
Waste Management
It is important to ensure that resources aren’t wasted by environmentally friendly production. This applies to both management technology and operating technology. Phoenix Contact Middle East implements waste management strategies in the office as well as at the warehouse. To reduce the amount of cardboard they recycle, they practice carboard management. All material scrapping is done through licensed recycling firms.
Automating paper-based processes is important not only for the environment but also for efficiency and accuracy. Phoenix Contact Middle East installed an HRMS to automate many of the company’s routine HR processes.
Carbon Footprint
With the assistance of Emirates nature-WWF’s ‘Target Climate Initiative,’ Phoenix Contact Middle East conducted a Greenhouse Gas Inventory for the years 2018-2020. This was done to identify the source of CO2 emissions and to identify the key actions that could be taken to reduce them. Their GHG footprint was reduced by 50% at the end 2021, mainly due to the conversion of their shipments from air freight mode to sea freight mode.

The Great Place to Work employee survey was conducted in 2020. It records workplace culture in five categories at an aggregated level. Contrary to 360 feedback, one can draw conclusions about the culture but not the leadership behavior of individuals. Phoenix Contact Middle East has achieved a 100% participation rate, which is an important element in trust.
Employee Wellbeing
Phoenix Contact Middle East is a company that has been continuously implementing corporate wellness and healthcare management practices since 2020. They have included psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment in their Group Medical Insurance Policy. They also joined a Corporate Wellness Program called Steppi to encourage employees and to increase their activity levels to stay fit.
In 2021, the company joined forces with SAFE Space, a company that provides employees and employers with the tools needed to manage their mental well-being. They began with a survey to assess their employees’ mental health. Then they joined the program that offers unlimited access to professional counselors and coaches via virtual sessions.
Diversity and inclusion
Phoenix Contact Middle East participated in the Dubai Chamber Sustainability Week 2021 campaign titled “Let’s Make an Inclusive Workplace” and became more aware about the importance of inclusivity and sustainable development in the workplace.
Training and development
Learning and growth are a journey. Phoenix Contact is committed towards its professional and personal development. Since 2021, all employees have had access to LinkedIn Learning. Access to the cloud software from SAP is also available to employees for training administration purposes. This allows them to plan and track their own qualifications.
Volunteering and Charity
Before in-person events were stopped due to the global pandemic, Phoenix Contact Middle East had an ongoing partnership to Action Care, a local charity that held a variety charitable events and programs for children of low-income families. They sponsored many of their initiatives over the years and had volunteers assist the children in a variety of educational programs and interactive sessions. They also had volunteers at Career Days, the National Charity School. DubaiTo help young adults prepare for work by introducing them the field of Electrical Engineering and giving tips on how to improve their CVs.
