County Environmental Health extends water contact closure to Imperial Beach

Monday was the extension of the existing water contact area by the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality Tijuana Slough shoreline north to include Imperial Beach shoreline.

According to county data, sewage-contaminated water from the Tijuana River was entering the Tijuana EstuaryThe conditions indicate that contamination of ocean water extends from the International border northward to Imperial Beach shoreline.

Until the results of sampling prove that the ocean water is safe to swim in, signs warning of sewage-contaminated waters will be in place.
