DEC gives Hampton Bays students an opportunity to learn about the environment

HAMPTON BAYS (NY) Are you smarter that a fifth-grader? Fifth graders at Hampton Bays Middle School have accumulated a wealth of knowledge about East End environments through a program offered recently by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Ron Gelardi, DEC educator, spoke with students during the program about biomes and ecosystems. This topic is something that students have been studying as part their science curriculum. He also presented information about the origins and protection of habitats for different species of animal species.

Students also had the opportunity to meet a turtle, snake, hedgehog, and stick bug.
