Do you want regulation and not closure? The Environment Minister for air pollution

Gurugram, 7 Mar (IANS)Bhupender Yadav, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister, said Monday that his ministry wants regulation and non-closure of polluting facilities to ensure Delhi-NCR residents have clean air.

“The common misconception that ‘environment” means closing all things that have an impact on Mother Nature is widespread among the public. After inaugurating a Dialogue Towards Clean Air’, he said that we don’t want closure. We want regulation.”

The Dialogue was an interactive session organized by the Commission for Air Quality Management NCR & Adjoining Areas, (CAQM), in collaboration with the Ministry. It focuses on the various factors that impact the air quality throughout the NCR.

“Our team, which includes the members of the Commission, is committed towards working towards providing an unhealthy and pollution-free environment for the citizens of the entire NCR,” said the Minister. He added that PM2.5 and PM10 dust particles in the air get into our lungs. We, citizens of India, must work together to improve the environment.

Yadav praised the efforts of CAQM in reducing the menace of air pollution in the entire NCR. He claimed that the NCR has seen remarkable improvements in air quality due to the Commission’s persistent efforts, as well as close monitoring and inspection drives in different sectors that contribute to air pollution.

The interactive session was attended by representatives from the Central government and state governments, Pollution Control Boards and municipal bodies, as well as NGOs, the private sector, academia and industry associations.

A total of 20 NGOs involved in the fight against air pollution took part in the dialogue. The Ministry and Commission assured all stakeholders of continued support and cooperation in a joint fight against air pollution in the NCR.
