Dothan plant gets $17,000 for environmental violations

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY). Commercial Jet faces fines for alleged environmental violations in Dothan’s aircraft refurbishing plant.

Alabama Department of Environmental Management proposes $16,920 in penalties.

ADEM cites the following violations: storage of hazardous materials without a permit, failure make a waste determination and failure to mark satellite collection containers of hazardous material with the words Hazardous Waste. They also neglect to mark satellite accumulation container of hazardous matter with an indication of the hazards.

Commercial Jet also claimed that it failed to submit a quick guide to all local emergency personnel and didn’t conduct or document weekly inspections in hazardous materials areas.

A request for comment was sent to corporate offices in Miami but was not immediately responded to.

Commercial Jet is located at Dothan Regional Airport. It has a 400,000 square-foot facility that overhauls large and heavy jets.

The Dothan facility had been vacant for several years and was empty when the company invested $12 million.

In the coming weeks, the Commercial Jet case will likely be resolved.

Environmental violations are not uncommon. The ADEMs website shows that 13 Alabama companies have been cited in April.

This story has been updated to reflect the $12 million Commercial Jets investment, and not $12.
