Jamshedpur, Jan 5, Congress leader, Dr Ajoy Kumar has in a letter to the Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren has urged for the abolition of environment clearance certificate for brick kiln owners in the state. Dr. Ajoy Kumar mentioned in his letter that more than 2000 brick kilns are being operated in the State. Before they could operate their kilns, the owners of these kilns needed to obtain certificates of environmental clearance. In his letter, the Congress leader stated that kiln owner must run around pillar-to-post to obtain these certificates.
Dr Ajoy Kumar suggested in the letter to the Chief Minister that the Jharkhand government should take the lead from the state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Punjab and Haryana who have done away with the requirement of environmental clearance for brick kiln owners and that this should be implemented in the state. Dr. Kumar wrote that the mandatory environmental clearance should not be required. This was in keeping with the interests of workers as well as the industry. The brick kiln owner has found it difficult to obtain an environmental clearance certificate. As a result, they and their workers face significant income incontinence.
