Earth Day: Indians would rather pay more to purchase environmentally-friendly products

The Earth Day celebrations are being celebrated all over the globe. A survey revealed that Indians are some of the most environment-conscious people. They are most likely spend their money on products that have a lower carbon footprint.

American Express, a global integrated payment company that serves 7996 adults worldwide, conducted a survey and found that the majority of respondents from India want to make a positive difference on the planet. They are interested in purchasing sustainable products and supporting low-carbon communities.

While 87 percent of Indian respondents want to buy sustainable products, 97 per cent of Indian respondents surveyed said they are most interested in spending money that will benefit local businesses and communities.

Further, the survey revealed that 98 percent of Indian respondents want to spend money on items that will help build low-carbon communities.

The majority of Indian respondents (92%) said that they would not mind paying more, but would prefer to purchase sustainable products at an extra cost. 94% of Indian respondents indicated that they are willing and able to pay an additional 10% premium. However, 29% stated they are prepared to pay 50% more. And 23% stated they would pay more than 50% to purchase sustainable products.

According to the survey, 97% of participants from India would trust brands that address environmental problems and would shop more with a company that does something to reduce the effects of climate change.

55% of Indian respondents said that when they make decisions about where to eat, they will consider the availability of plant-based options in a restaurant.
