There are many factors that have led to 30,000 graduates pursuing successful careers as scientists and artists, writers, and other creative fields. First, all Eastern in 4 Academic Plan students work with their academic advisors and Advising Centre staff. They confirm their major, select the courses required for graduation, and choose personal electives. Then, they design a semester-by–semester approach to their Easterncareer.
The First-Year Experience is a unique opportunity for students to have access to a wide range of academic and student support resources to help them make the transition to college easier. The First Year Introduction course, for example, introduces students to Eastern’s famous liberal arts education structure. Students will also learn how to maintain Eastern’s academic standards such as reading and critical thinking.
New entrants to Eastern undergo an orientation program in summer before they can enter the campus. This helps them better manage their fall semester. The First Year Introduction course is small and only 25 students per group. This makes it a learning community that allows students to quickly bond with mentors as well as faculty members.
Timothy Bugden, a major in Environmental Earth Science, agrees that Eastern was extraordinary. I was able to thrive under the guidance of extremely motivated professors, and I enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow students. I am astonished at the opportunities that I would have missed if I had not enrolled at Eastern. Bugden earned his MS in hydrology from the University of Connecticut, and now works as a CAD draftsman.

The university also offers more than 700 opportunities for employment on campus. Practical experience includes practicums (Social Work majors); student-teaching and other clinical experiences in Early Childhood Education, Education, and Physical Education majors; art exhibitions at Easterns Art Gallery (Art majors); as well as on- and off campus performances (Music and Theater majors).
This is not all. Eastern offers a wide range of sports for men and women, including swimming, lacrosse, and basketball. Eastern offers top-quality facilities, such as the softball field and baseball stadium, which allow students to improve their athletic skills. Students with non-sports interests can join over 90 student clubs, including the Asian Cultural Society and Black Student Union, as well as the Creative Writing Club.
Taylor Brandariz, a Business Administration major who graduated in May 2016, is fondly recollecting her time at Eastern. Sarah Froehlich says that at Eastern, I was able teach in a dual language program. This allowed me to use my Spanish on daily basis and my understanding to draw comparisons to English. This foundation is helping her in her current position teaching Spanish-speaking children first grade English at North Windham elementary school.
