Yasmine Fouad, Environment Minister, stated that the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference, (COP27), in Sharm El Sheikh, Red Sea resort, in November, would be centered on climate adaptation, mitigation, and financing.
During her meeting with Jan Noether, Executive Director of German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACIC), and Emad Ghaly, the chamber president, she made these comments. They discussed the COP27 goals and other aspects of cooperation.
Fouad stated that Egypt would like to provide more space for the civil society and the private sector to implement projects aimed to reducing carbon emissions during its presidency of the COP27.
The environment minister said that the Egyptian government has recently announced a number green incentives in areas like electric transport, hydrogen, alternative to single-use plastic bags, and waste.
She pointed out that Egypt’s Ministry is currently working to develop a plan for green transition, which will be used to help all sectors adopt green policies.
The environment minister welcomed cooperation from the GACIC to carry out projects in the areas transportation, gas, renewable energy, carbon reduction, agriculture.
According to the GACIC executive Director, the EU is committed to providing sustainable financing for projects focusing on reducing carbon pollution.
