Egypt: Natural Gas-Fuelled buses to preserve the environment

t

Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shararawy stated that the conversion of 2,262 buses from Public Transport Authority to run on natural gas rather than diesel fuel is a project to preserve the environment as well as reduce air pollution.

The minister’s comments were made while following up on the implementation of the cooperation protocol between the Ministries of Local Development, Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Public Transport Authority of Cairo and Alexandria to convert 2262 buses to natural gas at a total cost of EGP1.2 billion as of fiscal year (FY 2021/2022).

The agreement was reached within the framework President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives for vehicles to run on natural gasoline. This is to maximize the economic benefits of natural gas and maximize its added value, said the minister.
