Al Azhar University organized the Third International Scientific Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development. The conference was called “Climate Change – Challenges and Confrontation” and ran from December 18 to 2021.
Al Azhar Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa will be attending the three-day conference.
A number of ministries will be participating in the activities of this conference, including the ministries of environment and electricity, health, higher education, and research institutions that are concerned with climate change.
About the conference
The three-day conference sessions are held at Al-Manara International Conference Center located in the Fifth Settlement.
The conference will host a variety of workshops and seminars, in keeping with Egypt’s 2030 vision. These include facing the impacts of climate change through the existence an integrated and sustainable ecosystem that enhances resilience to natural hazards. Also, in light the African Union’s 2063 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the United Nations Climate Change Conference-COP 27 which Egypt will host in Sharm El-Sheikh, November 2022.

The conference will also feature several scientific sessions on climate change. They include “The Role Religious and Spiritual Leaders Play in Confronting Climate Change”, and the “Role of Egyptian Civil Society Institutions In Confronting Disasters Resulting From Climate Change”.
The conference will also address conservation of natural resources from Islamic law’s perspective.
The conference will highlight a variety of advanced research topics, including pollution, climate, causes of global warming and greenhouse gases, pollution and climate hazards, GIS and remote sensing, climate changes and health, ecosystems and renewable energy.
The Opening Session

Al-Azhar Grand Iam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb addressed the conference’s inaugural session. He highlighted that the climate crisis is the current crisis in our world. He pointed out that rising temperatures, forest fires, increased snowfall, and the extinctions of many species of animal and plant.
He stated that such changes began showing so clearly irritating signs that officials from the East and West began to utter cries for danger. International conferences were organized to address the causes and ways of preventing the disaster and the criminalization of those responsible.
