Egypt’s Environment Ministry Supports Industrial Facilities for Sustainable Development

Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, stated that her ministry is committed to helping industrial facilities comply to environmental standards to ensure sustainable industrial development. This includes taking environmental considerations into account.

This helps to provide products that can compete globally in light of the trend towards green economies and support efforts to combat climate change impacts.

Fouad made the remarks while visiting Maamoura Paper Company, Alexandria on Tuesday. This was part of her visit at a number of industrial facilities located in Alexandria and Beheira Governorates to examine the implementation of voluntary eco compliance plans.

In order to comply with the law protecting waterways from pollution, the minister visited the Maamoura Company’s chemical and biological treatment units. It is estimated that it cost approximately EGP 10 millions.

This is due to the directives given by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli in regards to adjusting the status factories and reducing pollution. It also comes amid preparations for Egypt’s hosting the UN Climate Change Conference 2022.
