”As a leader messaging app, Viber is quite a powerful platform and I believe it’s our duty for this impact to be positive,” said Petya Kamburova, Senior Global Business Development Manager. “We wanted to educate our users about how important it is to protect the environment and how it affects our overall health and well-being in an engaging and simple-to-understand manner. Teaming up with the WHO in time for the World Health Day and offering the tools of our platform to reach millions of users was a natural decision.”

“The climate crisis is a health crisis,” said Maria Neira, Director of the department of Public Health & Environment, World Health Organization. “Let’s reimagine a world where clean air, water and food are available to all. Where economies are focused upon health and well-being. Where cities are livable, and people have respect for their health and the health of the planet.”

Roughly 24% of all global deaths are linked to the environment – a healthier environment could prevent these deaths. The COVID-19 epidemic is yet another reminder of how delicate the relationship between peoples and planet Earth. Climate and health crises are being driven by our political, commercial and social decisions.

Pollution and plastics can be found in the bottoms of our deepest oceans and on the highest mountains. They have also made their way into the food chain. Systems that produce highly processed, unhealthy foods and beverages are leading to obesity, increasing cancer, heart disease, and generating a third more greenhouse gas emissions.

Asthma, heart disease and lung diseases are increasing rapidly as more than 90% of people breathe in unhealthy air resulting form the burning of fossil fuels. The warming world is causing mosquitoes to spread more diseases and faster than ever. People are being affected by extreme weather, land degradation, and water scarcity.

Sharing knowledge and raising awareness with friends and family can make a significant difference in the well-being of people and their quality of life.
