North Berwick Environment and Heritage Trust’s 50th Anniversary AGM will be held next month.
This meeting aims at addressing the growing number short-term and second homes in the area.
Olwyn Owen, acting chairman, stated: North Berwick is very popular. It has brought a welcome influx family, but it also made it harder for key workers, and younger people, to find affordable, suitable housing.
“The explosion of Airbnb short-lets and second homes has sucked energy from the north and centre of the town. There are some streets that are nearly deserted during winter.
“The trust works towards conserving and enhancing the environment and heritage in North Berwick, and the disproportionately large number of unoccupied properties is one concern.
The meeting will include a speech by Paul McLennan (East Lothian MSP), entitled A public balance act: heritage and environment planning.
The AGM will be held at St Andrew Blackadder Church at 7:00pm on Thursday, March 10.
All members and non-members welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
