Environment Canada has issued a blizzard warning for Weyburn, and all of southeastern Saskatchewan. It advises people to stockpile medications and supplies now and not to travel.
According to the government agency, “This storm could be the most severe blizzard in decades.” “Power outages will be likely, rural areas should be ready for prolonged outages.”
The snow will start Tuesday evening near the U.S. border and then move northwards throughout the night. The blizzard is expected Tuesday evening to last until Friday morning.
Environment Canada predicts widespread snowfall accumulations up to 50 cm. This will be accompanied by northerly wind gusts of 70-90 km/h, causing visibility to zero and blowing snow.
Crews from City of Weyburn were initially focusing on spring cleaning, but they are now shifting to a winter mindset.
