Montreal is experiencing springtime again! No. It’s Earth Hour, yes. Even though daylight savings has given us an additional hour of light, today is the best day to go without any light. Environment Canada encourages all Canadians to take part in Earth Hour on March 26th by turning off all lights except essential from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
“Every year, at 8:15 p.m. on March 31, supporters from more than 190 countries and territories come together to take action and raise awareness about the issues facing our home. Earth Hour.
In a recent Instagram post Environment Canada reminded Canadians to turn off all lights for 60 minutes. Environment Canada stated, “Doing so can help reduce unnecessary energy use and help in fighting climate change.”
Earth Hour is not limited to lights. You can turn off certain appliances and any other devices that require electricity if you don’t use them.
Montreal has had its hottest year in 2021. It’s not surprising that there is still much to be done on climate action.
On March 21, Mayor Valrie Plante stated that Montreal would invest $3.5million to plant more than 17,000 trees in 2022. This initiative is just one of many to make Montreal the “greenest” city in North America. Plante stated this in her tweet.
Earth Hour is a time when you can take action to limit climate change.
