Environment Canada: Hamilton and Brant Wednesday possible with strong winds and freezing rain

Environment Canada has issued an advisory that strong winds and freezing rain are possible in Hamilton County and Brant County.

According to the weather agency, freezing rain is expected. It could fall to between two and five millimetres. Strong easterly winds are forecast with gusts up to 60 to 70 km/h.

“Freezing rain will change to rain Wednesday afternoon or night,” reads the statement.

Environment Canada stated that although freezing rain is unlikely to fall near Lake Ontario, areas nearby may experience between 10 and 25 millimetres.

According to the statement, the partially frozen ground could make it more difficult to absorb the rain, which could cause localized flooding.

Frost and freezing rain could also cause ice on roads and power outages.

The severe weather is expected to end by Wednesday night.
