Environment Canada has issued a winter travel advisory

WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Weather advisory in force for:

  • Orangeville – Grand Valley – Southern Dufferin Country
  • Shelburne-Mansfield-Northern Dufferin County

Winter Weather Travel Advisory in force today due to heavy snow.

Hazards:
Snowfall amounts from 4-8 cm
Heavy snow has significantly reduced visibility
Snowfall rates reaching 3 cm/hr

Timing:
This afternoon through this evening.

Discussion:
Rain will start to turn into snow quickly, but it is likely that precipitation will begin as rain. The snow will fall for a few more hours, which can cause reduced visibility. The accumulation of snow may be restricted by temperatures higher than freezing, especially on roads or sidewalks. Higher snowfall accumulations may be seen in areas of higher terrain like the Dundalk hills and Niagara escarpment. Temperatures will be slightly cooler.

You should be prepared to adapt your driving to changing road conditions. You should exercise extra caution when driving or walking through affected areas. In heavy snow, visibility may be affected suddenly.
