Environment Canada has issued a Special weather statementToronto and the surrounding area ahead of a low-pressure system that’s expected to bring a messy mixture of wintry precipitation to Toronto.
According to a Tuesday statement, the weather agency stated that rain will begin falling on Wednesday night and could reach 25 millimetres in total. Then it could transition into ice pellets or freezing rain on Thursday afternoon.
Snowfall will begin Thursday evening, and reach four to eight cm by Friday. The system will then taper off later in the morning.
Environment Canada stated that a low pressure system is expected track northeast across Lake Erie/Lake Ontario Thursday night. This could bring a mix of wintry precipitation to southern Ontario.
The agency warns motorists that road closures may be possible and that power outages could occur in affected areas. This includes York Region, Peel Region and Hamilton.
Environment Canada described the’multi-day snow storm’ that would hit Toronto earlier this month as a’multiday snow event’.
However, this was not the case mid-January when parts of Ontario and Toronto were hit with a historic snowfall. This caused much of the city to be inaccessible.
Toronto is expected to reach eight degrees Celsius on Wednesday and then drop to -11 degrees Celsius by Friday morning.
