Environment Canada warns that winter weather, snow, and freezing rain are possible in northern Ontario

Northern Ontario is being warned to be prepared for stormy winter conditions this weekend

Environment Canada has issued several warnings and weather alerts for the region. People are advised to be aware of possible dangerous travel conditions.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for the Chapleau, Wawa, Timmins and Wawa areas. Between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, snowfalls of between 10 and 20 cm are expected.

The weather agency has said that snow is expected to move westwards and that it could mix with freezing rain on Saturday night.

In the meantime, freezing rain warnings are in effect for Greater Sudbury and Elliot Lake, North Bay and Sault Ste. Marie, Manitoulin, and Kirkland Lake are expected to begin Saturday evening.

Heavy snowfall is being warned for areas around Hearst, Thunder Bay and surrounding areas.
