Environment chief tests negative for Covid in driver’s infection

Wong Kam-sing, Secretary of the Environment, tested negative for Covid-19 on Sunday using a quick test kit after his driver tested positive.

It was confirmed that the driver went to work last Saturday. Wong will continue to work from home until he receives the results of the deep throat saliva test.

According to the Environment Bureau, the driver was subject to a quick test on Sunday. The preliminary positive result was reported by the Bureau. In accordance with Department of Health guidelines, he will send in a deep throat saliva sample to be tested.

The driver had never been in contact with the public or kept any records of travel. When he worked, he wore a mask and complied with anti-epidemic precautions. 

Wong was due to attend a meeting on Sunday with the mainland expert panel to introduce the territory’s sewage monitoring program. He now prefers to attend the meeting via video.
