‘Euphoria’StarColman Domingo hasrefuted the recent claims of “toxicity” on the set of the hit HBO series.
Talk toThe Hollywood ReporterConcerning the rumors, he shared his personal experience with the conditions at the set:
“Every single time Ive been on that set theres so much care, so much love, so much creative energy. []I have taken the greatest care of my body. []I feel like there’s ultimate consideration. I dont know where these words are coming from, but I think that with anything good, youre always going to get some backlash, and so you have to be prepared for it.”
Domingo made these remarks at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, March 6, where he was nominated for the category of Best Supporting Male. He was nominated for his performance in the critically acclaimed black comedy crime film. Zola.
Co-producer of The Other Side, Jeremy O. Harris was also present EuphoriaSeason 2, which also received a nomination in his screenplay inZola. He agreed with Domingos sentiments regarding the rumors, and then went on to discuss some factors that he believes might be behind criticism of the show.
“Things that are seemingly about young black women, queer people, people dont see those getting huge numbers or huge awards attention. They must find a way to pick them up when they do. This is what I see with a show that has been viewed 20 million times and is the most watched since. Game of Thrones. There are no dragons in this world. It is just a young black girl struggling with addiction. I think people are trying to figure out what must be wrong to make this thing run the way it has.”
The Daily BeastIt also published numerous reports quoting multiple sources, which claim that ‘Euphoria’is a “toxic production” riddled with “messy behind the scenes drama.” HBO has also addressed the claims in a statement, defending that the well-being of the cast and crew on all the productions under the channel is “always a top priority.”
