Evers creates a new office of environmental justice

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Gov. Tony Evers has signed an executive decree creating a new office for environmental justice. The announcement was made on Earth Day.

Republicans removed the office from Evers’ budget proposal last year. However, the Democrat running for reelection in November managed to get around them by creating it via an executive order on Friday.

The new office will collaborate with the existing Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy. The goal of the new office is to encourage cooperation between state agencies in order for them to promote environmentally responsible policies.

This week, Evers released the first clean energy plan for the state.
