Barrie –
Although spring has not yet arrived, it will officially start tomorrow. Saturday was a day of celebration for those who were out and about on Saturday.
“I think that a lot people feel that okay, we go slushy to sweat we go to winter to summer, however, we have to endure the spring season,” says a laughing Dave Phillips of Environment Canada.
Spring’s mess is a familiar term for a messy time of year. It is typically wet, slushy, and messy.
One woman in front of a Barrie shopping centre said, “We get all four seasons within one day.” We start in winter and end up in summer the same day so I don’t expect any different.”
Thursday saw temperatures rise to double digits. Phillips advises not to let those record-breaking numbers fool anyone.
Phillips states that in 33 years worth of Barrie record keeping, there has been only one April without snow. And half of the Mays have had it.”
“From this point onwards, the first day of spring in Barrie, on average, we still get about 28cms of snow around ten percent of what our annual total falls during the spring,” he concluded.
It was mainly a cool and wet Saturday, but many people ventured out.
Many ski resorts remain open. Mt. St. Louis Moonstone plans that it will remain open until the 27th.
“We have a base of 70-100 centimetres, and all trails are open this weekend. Sarah Huter from Mount St. Louis Moonstone says the conditions are extraordinary.
Phillips said he hopes people don’t give up hope on spring too soon, adding that overall, the months April, May, and June would be warmer.
