Federal cancer initiative focusing on environmental factors

ROANOKE (Va.) – An initiative to reduce cancer deaths focuses on how environmental exposure can contribute to a diagnosis.

Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control hosted an online panel of experts. Moonshot for Cancer

It was a coalition that was revived in February by The Biden Administrationto bring together resources at federal level for cancer research.

The operation will reduce cancer deaths by at least 50% in the next 25 years.

The forum’s purpose is to encourage discussion about new innovations in cancer research, prevention, and treatment. It also aims to make sure that the initiative reaches all Americans.

Experts involved in the initiative say they want innovative tools to help prevent and treat cancer. This is especially important as the rate for childhood cancer continues to rise.

Dr. Margaret Kripke said that the bottom line is we know enough about environmental pollutants to recognize their importance in human cancers. However, we need better methods to identify them.

Kripke stated that a team will be updating the nation’s cancer cluster guidelines in the coming months. Kripke stated that while there is still much to be done to understand the environmental factors that are linked to cancer, there has been research that has led to new avenues and ideas to prevent it from happening.
