In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (Minister of Sports and Youth), the Friends of the Environment Center launched the first green forum 2022. This forum will discuss the conditions, phenomena, and challenges facing Qatar’s environment. It will investigate and suggest possible solutions and make recommendations to the relevant authorities.
The forum, which is called “The Grandparents Meadows.. Trust”, offers an open discussion platform for experts and interested parties, researchers, and academics to discuss solutions to the Qatari environment challenges through a series of seminars and discussion sessions in the coming weeks. The forum’s first symposium was held under the title “Environment in Qatar: Challenges & Ambitions”. Engineer Farhoud Al-Hajri, Chief Executive Officer of the Friends of the Environment Center, stated that sustainability is only possible if we preserve the environment, change our consumption patterns, and follow God’s lead in dealing with it.
He stressed the need to develop a strategy with specific goals and priorities that draw on the experience of developed countries that made great strides in dealing the environment. But he also reminded that society has rights and duties, including the right to enjoy a safe, healthy environment. Al-Hajri stated that this forum reviews a variety of environmental topics and axes as well as the challenges facing the country’s quest for an environmental future and develops effective solutions. He also pointed out that the next symposium will be held on April 13 under the title “Wildlife Qatar: Reality and Hope”.
The symposium was moderated and led by Dr. Mohamed Saif al-Kuwari. Participants discussed the effects of pollution on the environment and how it affects individuals and society. The symposium speakers stressed that Qatar is experiencing rapid activity and progress at all levels of commercial, industrial and construction. They also said that the environment is a living organism that can get sick or healthy and that this affects its environment components. It’s like a human body composed of tiny cells that are affected only by the smallest things. The speakers stressed the importance to view the environment as a vibrant body.
The speakers warned against the overgrazing of wild plants and wildlife. They also stressed the importance to educate and raise awareness. They advised that development must be balanced and take into consideration the preservation of the environment.
