This episode of Net-Zero Carbon is hosted by Evan Pohaski (CEO of freight carrier). JLE IndustriesTyler Cole, FreightWaves’ director of carbon intelligence, joins Cathy to discuss governance, environmental and social issues in the flatbed sector.
JLE is leading the charge in carriers’ emission-reduction pilot programs and improved visibility solutions. Cole and Pohaski discuss how ESG initiatives can be used in freight and logistics to distinguish the leaders from the losers.
Sustainability is about building long-term resilience into a model. Pohaski stated that sustainability is about increasing the value proposition for customers and creating a greater sense of purpose.
JLE’s primary customers include more than 70% with ESG mandates. JLE works to improve the ESG metrics of these companies. Cole and Pohaski talked about how safety and economics are table stakes, and ESG impact are now being considered.
Cole said that safety and personnel were non-negotiables. It seems like a lot of the environmental issues that have been externalized so long are now starting to become a major concern in certain industries. I believe trucking will be one of those industries in the near future.
Pohaski stated that JLE is currently in the exploratory phase of determining its ESG impact and economic implications for investing in more sustainable technologies. The company is focused on software that will improve routing efficiency.
Cole said, Let’s all work together to get rid of the idea of environmental concerns from any political stance. We all get to live on this planet.
ESG investments are a hot topic for some of the largest companies, including JLE’s steel and building material customers. JLE is currently looking at a range of solutions that could be implemented into the company’s current offerings for different customers.

JLE made a substantial investment in Remoras tech, but it will enable JLE to quickly test a green solution, Pohaski explained. Remoras technology is capable of capturing up to 80% carbon from trucks. This carbon can be used in concrete production. JLE has committed that five units of Remoras carbon capture technology will be used.
Pohaski stated that part of our mission is to create a resilient logistical backbone tomorrow.
