Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), requests

The Michigan Freedom of Information ActFOIA gives all persons, except those in correctional facilities, access to public records of government agencies. To inspect or request public records from EGLE, you must submit a written request. You must describe the records in sufficient detail to enable the department locate and locate them. Some records are exempted from disclosure under the FOIA, or another statute. These records will not be provided. You may need to pay a fee in order to process your request.

The Guide for Requesters provides additional information on how to interact with EGLE’s FOIA Request Centre. Please note that records will not be available in EGLE’s FOIA Request Center for more than 365 days. After that, they will be destroyed according to the Department’s records retention schedule.
