Paynesville The Global Environmental Facility (GEF), has launched a Small Grants Program to assist young people, women, and people with disabilities in protecting the forest to promote the fight against climate change.
The Mission of Hope compound, Lower Johnsonville, Monrovia hosted the launch of the program.
Feeding Liberia, Mission of Hope for the Disabled, Reformational Youth of Liberia Incorporated and Liberians United for Rescue Action (LURA) are the implementing partners that are going to work with community stakeholders to implement the project.
Launching the initiative, the Executive Director of the National Commission on Disability Daintowon Pay-Bayee praised the Unity Nations Development Programs (UNDP) for their efforts in helping people with disabilities in the country.
According to the Executive director of the National Commission Disabilities programs and projects will help people with disabilities be independent in society, says the Executive Director.
Madam Bayee explained that this is a true dream come true as people with disabilities can do many things with the hands they have, which may be impossible for others because of their disabilities.
Samuel K. Boakai, the National Coordinator of the Global Environmental Facility Grant – Small. He explained to journalists that the project aims to deliver the Global Environmental Facility Grant-Small to young people, women, and people with disabilities. It is designed to provide global environmental benefit to help replace fossil fuels with Solar panels.
Mr. Boakai stated that if you help the forest and reduce carbon emissions, you will benefit. Liberia will also benefit.
He said: The CPO or NGO that works at the community level with community stakeholders to provide them income through small jobs.
According to the National Coordinator for the Global Environmental Facility Grant – Small, the program will start in Montserrado County, with the plan to expand to other counties in the near future.

Many participants at the Global Environmental Facility Grant Smalll stressed the importance of engaging in agriculture to promote goal 2 of the SDGs, which talks about hunger.
