Keri: Following the Maharashtra government’s unilateral decision to build an irrigation Dam on the interstate Fukeri nullah, in Dodamarg (see TOI), chief minister Pramod Seeant told TOI on Friday that he has instructed all concerned authorities to immediately contact the Union environment ministry.
Sawant stated that he had also asked concerned authorities to communicate our serious concerns with the Maharashtra government.
TOI reported that Maharashtra began work on a dam in Fukeri in Dodamarg. However, there was no environmental impact assessment done or consent from the riparian state. This poses a threat to Goas Kalane River in Pernem taluka.

The state PWD is increasing Chandel’s water treatment plant capacity to provide water for Pernem and Mopa International Airport. This dam will however create a severe water shortage for the project.
