Gov. Evers celebrates Earth Day through the creation of a new Office of Environmental Justice

WISCONSIN (CBS58) — Governor Tony Evers announced that a new environmental office was being created on Earth Day.

Friday, April 22nd, at the Indian Community School, Franklin, the governor signed an executive decree establishing the Office of Environmental Justice within the Department of Administration.

It will work in partnership with the Office of Sustainability.

Gov. Evers. Too many Wisconsinites have experienced the impacts of climate change firsthand. Rural communities have seen their roads and bridges destroyed, farmers have lost livestock or crops due to extreme weather, and small business owners have seen their businesses destroyed due to floods. The Office of Environmental Justice will play an important role in promoting policies and strategies to increase climate resilience. It will ensure that our communities and families can prepare and recover from the impacts of climate change. It will also help get resources and support to those who are most in need.

Evers claims that the task force on climate changes did research and came up with 55 solutions. Many of these were included in his budget proposal for 2022-23.
