Hitachi Energy launches OceaniQ, innovative solutions for the offshore environment

Dubai, UAE: Hitachi Energy today announced its OceaniQ portfolio1for offshore energy environments. It will be displayed this week at the annual WindEurope in Bilbao (Spain). OceaniQ was created by Hitachi Energy, a global technology market leader in power networks and a proven track record2in developing innovative solutions for offshore. OceaniQ will lead to greater wind power being efficiently harvested, and integrated into the global energy system.

OceaniQ combines cross-industry expertise from the power and maritime sectors to address applications for fixed platforms and floating structures. It also addresses sub-sea power system for wind, marine, and other offshore operators. Hitachi Energy collaborates with customers and partners to develop OceaniQ products and services that meet the needs of offshore energy operators.

OceaniQ solutions are modular in design, which allows for quick installation and allows for the connection of energy assets to onshore quickly. OceaniQ solutions use digitalization to provide remote monitoring and other services, such as predictive maintenance. Design elements are also ruggedized to withstand harsh marine conditions. This reduces the need to service them physically over their lifetime. OceaniQ solutions are also based on lifecycle thinking.

OceaniQ transformers are for offshore floating applications

Hitachi Energys recently released transformers for offshore floating applications are the first products announced as part o OceaniQ. Offshore wind electricity generation has grown tremendously since the initial commercial projects were completed in the early 1990s. It currently generates more than 35 gigawatts3 per capita. Building offshore presents great challenges, beyond the harsh saltwater environment. However, only a small portion of the potential has been realized. This is because offshore areas often lack the right seabed and are not suitable for fixed structures.

OceaniQ transformers as well as shunt reactors are critical equipment in the grid infrastructure enabling the transmission of electricity produced offshore by wind farms. This comprehensive and qualified range has been created in partnership with leading floating offshore developers. It is based on world-leading experience and features a lightweight, compact, modular design that includes specially-designed transformer active parts, tanks, and components.

OceaniQ’s world class engineers take pride in creating solutions that work in harsh offshore conditions. This, Bruno Melles (Managing Director Hitachi Energys Transformers), said. Bruno said that floating electrical systems are an important advancement in the evolution offshore renewable industry. They will open up enormous opportunities and unlock new business models that are based on clean power. OceaniQ fully supports Hitachi Energys Purpose which is focused on advancing a sustainable future for all.

Alfredo Parres4, Head, Renewables, Hitachi Energy stated, Wind power is one the Earth’s most abundant and free-giving natural resource and customers will be able, through the OceaniQ offshore portfolio to harness and integrate it better. Alfredo continued, OceaniQ is building a more sustainable and flexible energy system by bringing together our experts from offshore applications and wind farm connections. This allows us to develop and build the necessary solutions for a more interconnected, high-quality power grid. I am excited to discuss OceaniQ this week with customers at WindEurope and how we can continue pioneering technologies that maximize offshore winds potential.

Hitachi Energy’s latest portfolio addition continues to prove the company’s commitment in advancing innovation for sustainable offshore environment solutions. The company plans to announce new additions of the OceaniQ portfolio over the next few months. OceaniQ was launched following the company’s recent launches IdentiQ, a digital twin solution for HVDC/power quality, and EconiQ which is a portfolio of solutions that has been proven to have exceptional environmental performance. This will result in significant reductions of carbon footprint.
