House panel wants frequent consultations from coal companies about environmental protection

NEW DELHI :

The government places a lot of emphasis on climate protection and carbon neutrality. Therefore, the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Coal asked coal companies to meet with it more often about environment protection and social welfare.

Union Minister of Coal Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday chaired a meeting of the parliamentary panel to discuss the status of compliance of environmental norms by coal and lignite companies.

The Coal Ministry stated that they appreciate the efforts of the ministry and state-run companies in the coal and lignite sectors to care for the environment.

Representatives of Coal India gave a detailed presentation during the meeting on compliance with environment norms at its mine.

The company also said that it is promoting various sustainable practices to reduce carbon footprint of mining and for the welfare of host community and has planned to install 3,000 MW solar plants by 2023-24, which will meet their electrical power requirement.

The statement stated that Coal India’s subsidiaries promote mine tourism and develop ecological parks around coalfields.
