Your environment either makes you or breaks you. Unfortunately, most people don’t even realize that your environment can influence your behavior.
Positive environments will encourage you to take action and move forward. If you are in a negative atmosphere full of stress and noise, distractions or toxicity, it will be harder to make progress.
Let’s say that you want to lose weight but keep buying sweets, chocolates, white bread, icecream, and other processed foods. You will find it difficult to resist unhealthy food if your home is full. You don’t realize how dependent you are on the environment around you.
You underestimate your ability to control your environment and overestimate your willpower. Although you think you have control, your environment, your systems and your emotions can influence your decisions.
Motivation and willpower are not the key to success. It is creating the right environment, habits, and conditions for success. Your willpower should be cultivated in the design stage and not in the action phase. It should be easy to take positive actions and difficult to fall into bad habits. You must plan your environment ahead of time so that your actions are almost automatic.
It is crucial to create a positive environment and build habits that will lead you to success. You will gain momentum if you have a system that allows you to move forward. It’s like walking on a conveyor belt at the airport. Everything becomes faster, easier, more efficient, and less stressful.
In every area of your life, you can create conveyor belts: Family, career, creativity, money and health. This is possible in three steps.
- First, decide on your priorities. What are your priorities and why is this important? These questions require clear answers.
- Second, you must create the right conditions and systems in order to achieve your goals. This means breaking down your big goals into smaller chunks, scheduling high-impact activities in your day and creating positive habits.
- Third, repeat these small actions over a long time. This involves stacking behaviors, not breaking the chains, adding fun to the process, and making the system sustainable and fail-proof. Consistent improvements over time will produce big results.
Fun is essential to make your process and systems more sustainable. Your natural instincts or old habits can be like river currents. It is very difficult to swim against them. This is why you need the right environment to help you avoid falling back into your old habits. Make positive habits look easy, natural, and fun. This will help you to adopt positive habits. Positive change and momentum can be achieved if you are able to incorporate fun and energy into your new positive habits.
Start small. Make your environment great. Create a system that works for your needs. Each day, make small progress. Each day, aim to achieve one hour of flow. You can create momentum and accelerate your progress. Keep it up and keep going. This is how it works.
Sometimes you get stuck in your desire for perfection. You are afraid of the unknown and you think too much. Because there is always resistance, you cannot move forward quickly.
You have to find ways to overcome your inner resistance in order to move forward. These methods or ways must be:
- It’s practical and easy to use
- Sharp and focused
It is important to start small, be consistent and take action every single day. For maximum creativity and productivity, you need to design your environment at work and home. How can you do this? These steps can be followed:
- Make it easy for you to take action. Change your environment accordingly.
- Schedule time for activities that require full concentration and focus by creating a calendar.
- Start by taking the smallest positive action you can. Do you have 3 minutes to spare? 5 minutes? 10 minutes? Please specify the minimum.
- Every day, take action. Be consistent. Do not break the chains.
- Keep repeating the minimum actions. Your positive habits and actions should be stacked together. This can be done for 40 days without compromising the chain. Continue to improve your habits and get better.
That’s it. This is the formula for success in your daily life.
Small steps + Consistency + Positive Habit Stacking + Establish your Chain + Repeat Over a Long Time
