Covid-19 has been confirmed by the Hurricanes as having made it into their Super Rugby Pacific squad. However details of how many cases are not known.
Chris Gibbes, Hurricanes assistant coach, confirmed the presence of the virus in their team on Monday before Saturday’s clash against newcomers Moana Paifika in Wellington.
Gibbes stated that Covid is present in the environment. I cannot confirm this, but I can confirm that it is there.
We are preparing to take on the guys this weekend and that is what we were focused on.”
Gibbes claimed that the team didn’t train Monday due to the circumstances.
He said that what we can control is our health and we are doing all we can to keep it that way.”
We knew it was coming. We prepared really well for it. As an organisation, we need to make sure that we can get the team out and get our performances going again this weekend.
It comes after Asafo, a rising talent in the field, was forced to withdraw from last weekend’s 21-14 win against the Highlanders.
Aumua was said to be “sick” by the Hurricanes at the time, but they did not confirm whether he had the coronavirus. Gibbes also didn’t comment Monday on Aumua’s illness.
