IBM Launches 2-year Global Pro Bono Environmental Program for Non-Profits

– Non-profit organizations from all over the world can now apply for the 2022 RFP. This RFP is focused on clean energy.

The pilot project included Heifer International, Nature Conservancy India, and Plan21 Foundation.

ARMONK, N.Y., Feb. 17, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — IBM (NYSE: IBMToday, ) announced the launch IBM Sustainability Accelerator, a global pro bono social impact program that applies IBM technologies, such as hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence, and an ecosystem of experts to enhance and scale non-profit and government organization operations, focused on populations vulnerable to environmental threats including climate change, extreme weather, and pollution.

“We believe that science, technology, innovation can help address environmental issues while serving vulnerable populations exposed to environmental hazards,” he said. The program:

After a two-phased approach, the IBM Sustainability Accelerator will support each organization for two years.

Phase I: Accelerator Engagements will start with the IBM GarageIBM’s method to use design thinking and agile techniques to accelerate meaningful innovation and create lasting culture changes. IBM experts will work closely with the beneficiary organization to determine their needs and create a clear roadmap for designing, developing, deploying, and continuously improving technology to solve specific public problems.

Phase II: A second phase will see IBM cross-industry specialists configure IBM resources and technology to help participants achieve their community and environmental impact goals. IBM Watson is one of the technologies that will apply. IBM Cloud, or the Environmental Intelligence Suite, among others. IBM Sustainability Accelerator beneficiaries will also receive IBM Cloud credits, weather data credit, mentorship, access to the IBM partner ecosystem, and monthly IBM Cloud credits. IBM experts will support pilot deployments of solutions in order to facilitate optimal implementation, scale long term impact and drive key societal outcomes.

Selection process

Each year, IBM will identify a theme for the RFPs or project selections of the organizations in its cohort.

Last year, we completed a pilot program with three participants in the IBM Sustainability Accelerator. These organizations have successfully completed their phase I on sustainable agriculture projects.
