“Climate change poses a risk to many organizations across the globe. The climate crisis is now a risk to many global corporations. Given the increased importance of climate-related risk to stakeholders, I have created my Global Quantum Computing Intellectual Property Report (for investors) that highlights key emerging trends that chief executives should consider when developing their quantum computing strategy. I also highlight the significance climate change is referenced in quantum technology intellectual properties. One example was the U.S. patent awarded to IBM — No. US 9888006 B2 — which includes the following claim: an access rule may be generated that indicates that resources regarding the potential causes of climate change are relevant,” said  Maëva Ghonda, Global Quantum Computing Intellectual Property (IP), Expert.

“Briefly, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015. It included 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals are also known as the UN SDGs and the Global Goals. This framework had the objective to create a universal policy for humanity. The Sustainable Development Goals to address the urgent challenges facing the global society. Climate Change is at the forefront of these urgent sustainability issues.” Maëva Ghonda. “This climate emergency goes beyond national borders. The international effort required to combat the climate crisis requires a united effort. I have invited CEOs from different continents as well as forward-thinking thought leaders to join me during this unique experience to share innovative ideas as well as best practices for climate action because my vision for my Quantum Executive Series has always been to provide thought leadership vis-à-vis topics of great importance to top management and boards of directors.”

“Tackling climate changes is one of humanity’s most pressing issues. Quantum computers will be a key tool in solving many environmental problems in the near future. Due to their low power consumption, they will significantly reduce the power consumption for data centers. They will also reduce traffic congestion, and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Renewable energy is unstable and is affected by the weather. However, Quantum Virtual Power Plant (VPP) will make it more common in society. This includes conversion to hydrogen and storage in EV battery. This world will benefit greatly from quantum computers’ ultra-fast optimization. “Now is the right time for humanity to begin working on quantum computers,” said Masayoshi Terabe (Head of Quantum Transformation (QX), at Sumitomo Corporation.

Quantum computing promises to revolutionize how we produce and store affordable renewable energy. One great example of this is fuel cells. These fuel cells, which have the potential to store unlimited energy and produce zero carbon emissions, predate the combustion engine by a quarter-century. However, to use hydrogen to generate clean energy efficiently requires a deep quantum mechanical knowledge of hydrogen chemistry and the catalyzed reaction it has with oxygen. No matter how powerful or large, traditional computers simply lack the computational speed, power, and logic necessary to identify the best catalysts. There are so many possible chemical combinations. However, this challenge is easily managed by large, fault-tolerant quantum computers that we are quickly moving towards,” he noted.
