Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yodav said Monday that the IPCC’s latest report reaffirms India’s call for equity, climate justice, and reiterates that developed countries must finance adaptation, loss and damages.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s latest report, “Climate Change 2022”: Impacts and Adaptation and Vulnerability, was released by the IPCC. It warned of devastating consequences for India and other countries if emissions are not cut.
“India welcomes the publication of the Working Group II contribution of the @IPCC_CH to the 6th Assessment Report on Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability.
“The report reiterates India’s call to equity, climate justice and curbing unsustainable consumption. Yadav tweeted that the report was a call to action on adaptation, building resilience, and reducing vulnerability to climate change impacts.
The minister stated that India is on the path to climate resilience and has demonstrated determination to pursue sustainable growth.
“Developed countries” must lead in urgent mitigation efforts and provide finance for adaptation, loss, or damage. With further warming, loss and damage caused by limits to adaptation are already happening and will only increase. India is moving along the path of climate resilience under PM Shri @narendramodi and has shown clear determination to move forward along a sustainable, efficient growth path,” he tweeted.
