Iran to take part in UN Environment Assembly

TEHRAN A delegation from Iran, headed by Ali Selajegheh (Department of Environment chief), will attend the Fifth Session of United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5).

The Fifth Session (UNEA-5) of the United Nations Environment Assembly is being held online and at Nairobi, from February 28 through March 2.

The theme of UNEA-5 is Strengthening Activities for Nature to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals. This highlights the central role that nature plays in people’s lives as well as in economic, social, and environmentally sustainable development.

UNEA-5 provides an opportunity for Member States to share their best practices for sustainability. It will provide momentum for governments to continue and catalyze multilateral environmental efforts to restore and protect the natural world upon which economies and societies rely.

ISNA reported Sunday that the Iranian delegation would represent the country’s priorities, actions, challenges and positions.

Immediately following UNEA-5.2, the Assembly is holding a Special Session March 3-4. This session will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary celebrations of the UN Environment Program’s creation in 1972 (UNEP@50).
