- Working from home might not be as good for the environment and people as we thought. This heavily depends on us.
- Also, why is it taking so many months to get body camera for the King County Sheriff’s Office

Working from home might not be as good for the environment and people as we thought. And that’s what I do as a member the pajamas-optional workforce.
Many large offices have already made improvements to their buildings to make them more efficient. They have purchased carbon credits or created a commute program. A worker like me doesn’t commute to work. But I do turn on all the lights at my home that wouldn’t have been turned off if I didn’t. My heat is on or the AC is turned up.
That’s what it is!Reuters reporter Paresh Dave thoughtHe asked 20 large companies how they incorporate work-from-home situations into their climate goals. NPR reportsThis list included companies from the Northwest such as REI, Microsoft, Amazon, and Microsoft.
Microsoft believes that working remotely will help reduce emissions over time. Microsoft has calculated over the past two years that someone could work from home for eight hours, with a laptop and three lightbulbs, using two monitors and two monitors. I don’t work at Microsoft. However, if I did, Microsoft would not consider that I keep a job.Slow TV on the bigscreenIt gives the illusion that I am working on a Norwegian train. Even though I don’t currently microwave fish at work, I can cook a healthier meal on my electric stove.
REI The company was transformed into a work-from home model.2020. Satellite offices. It is still waiting for industry standards to be established so it can calculate its carbon impact. Will these industry standards take into consideration the coffeepot that I consider an indispensable coworker? Or my vinyl playlist playing throughout the workday, filling up my home office with Tears for Fears & Sam Cooke. Or how I sometimes write this newsletter while taking long, hot bubble baths.
Okay, that last one isn’t true. It’s a shiatsu foot spa.
Amazon doesn’t calculate for workers at home John Ryan from KUOW reported this news recentlyAmazon doesn’t add up its carbon footprint as much as its competitors.
Working remotely, or using hybrid models, is a part of our work lives moving forward. It’s not enough to consider carbon impacts at work. To offset my carbon, I think I will need to keep more plants in my home office. Read NPR’s complete story Here.
Let’s talk body cams in King County. The sheriff did it.
Some things seem obvious and good, which is something that no reasonable person would oppose. Winning the lottery. Good education. Mr. Rogers. Clean water. A great cup of coffee. Police body cameras.
Despite the overwhelming support, that last one turns out to be a bit tricky. New King County Sheriff Patti Cole-Tindall Soundside tellsShe is also supportive of the cameras as Executive Dow Constantine. Ten deputies who took part in a bodycam pilot were also very supportive of them. What’s the problem?
There are two major hurdles to overcome, starting with the union.
Cole-Tindall stated, “Wearing body cams is considered a working condition.” “So hours, wages and working conditions are all mandatory subjects for bargaining. We must also engage in bargaining, as is happening now with union. That matter, as well as the budget necessary to start the program, will need to be resolved.”
The Sheriff’s Office has already included body cameras in its proposed budget 2023-24. Although they are not expensive, the sheriff claims that it is quite costly to store all that digital video and redact any information. Between budget requests and union bargaining, there is no timeline for body cams within King County.
It will be a huge deal for many people once it happens. The King County Sheriff’s Office’s reach is something that most people don’t know. It provides law enforcement in the county, as it does for 12 cities and the King County Airport.
Sheriff Cole Tindall is not only addressing the body cam problem when she takes on the role. Soundside hears her complete conversation. Here.

DID YOU KNOW?
I recently wrote a Did YOU Know factoid about Space Needles’ 1962 Worlds Fair debut and mentioned that it had bells that rang at the beginning of the event. It turns out that this is not true at all. What is an imitation carillon?
It sounds exactly the same as a real carillon. But what exactly is a carillon? It is likely that you haven’t heard of it because there aren’t enough of them. A carillon It is a huge instrument that uses enormous bells to make notes. It is a keyboard that functions as a piano, but each key has a string attached to a bell. These bells can be a lot of weight. It would be difficult to install a true carillon on the Space Needle. Instead44 speakers were installed 200ft high, below the disc. It was controlled by the Space Needle at the base and imitated 538 bells. It could be heard up to 10 miles away. After the Worlds Fair, the system was removed.
