It takes a collective effort to create a safe work environment for working women

Jakarta (ANTARA). Indra Gunawan, Public Participation Deputy at Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, pressed for a collective effort to create a safe and friendly working environment for women.

“These efforts were made through various campaigns within the working world as well as several other places,” he stated in a Friday press statement.

He stated that the ministry aims to encourage people to come together to break down biases and create new values about how to support women in their work and social lives.

He stressed that discrimination against women who work is a factually very bad for womankind.

“Several biases remain around us. He noted that there are many impacts of these biases on women’s perceptions, including the high incidence of violence against women.

The Women and Children Protection Online Information System (“SIMFONI PPA”) recorded 415 cases 2021 of violence at the work place, with 233 victims being female adults.

Gunawan stated that these were the only ones that were recorded and reported.

Like other types of violence, violence at work is an iceberg phenomenon. According to estimates, there are many more victims of workplace violence than they report.

According to the International Labour Organization, violence and harassment in the workplace had negative effects on different parties in 2017. This included a decline of work motivation and productivity.

These were both for the employees who were the victims and the people who witnessed the violence and harassment at work.

These factors can impact the company’s image as well as its service quality.

Gunawan stated that the ministry has created the Women and Children Friendly 129 telephone service for people to report any violence they have experienced.

The government has also provided the Women and Children Protection Regional Technical Acting Units, (UPTD PPA), to 34 provinces and 204 municipalities.

These units are available to assist all people, including women and children.
