It’s the real deal: Environment Canada’s top forecaster has declared that spring weather is here in Ottawa

Environment Canada’s top weather expert insists that spring is here to stay after four months of lower than normal temperatures.

David Phillips, senior climateologist, believes it’s time to get out there and plant the garden and open the cottage this spring with sunny skies and temperatures that are above the seasonal average over the next week.

Winter lasted long into April. April was not spring-like. Phillips said that there was less snow than usual, but it was still cool.

There were four months consecutively with colder than normal temperatures, January, February and March. All of a sudden May is here. We began to see temperatures in the double digits.

Environment Canada forecasts sunny skies and temperatures of 17 C on Thursday. Sunny with a high of 14 C Saturday and 18 C Sunday, the outlook for the weekend.

This weather is consistent and it feels like the real deal. Phillips stated that Phillips doesn’t think there’s anything in the forecast that could take this away.

The long-range forecast is for sunny skies that will continue until next week. Temperatures will reach 26 C on Tuesday, and 29 C on Wednesday.  Phillips jokes it will feel like spring only three minutes before summer-like temps arrive.

High pressure area of high pressure will be hovering over the province. It will bring in all the southerly air and heat everything up. Wall to wall sunshine. Phillips claimed Thursday that Phillips had no reason to mention any precipitation.

Environment Canada’s models for the month of April predict warmer temperatures than usual, and Phillips does not expect to see frost in May.

Although I wouldn’t recommend buying your plants from the garden centre, I would definitely recommend it. Phillips said that I don’t see any thing that would damage them.

The cottages and cabins will be open. Im concerned about the black flies.

Phillips suggests that you watch your plants and flowers during May, in case of low single-digit temperatures.
