Japan and PH seek to establish ties for the protection of the environment

The Ministry of the Environment Japan and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Japan will meet to discuss environmental issues and explore cooperation opportunities in the development of a decarbonized society and infrastructure.

The first ever Philippines-Japan Environmental Week will be held online by the two agencies, March 2 – 4, 2022. It is expected to attract around 1,000 participants from the private and public sectors, research and academic institutions, as well as non-governmental organizations.

Roy Cimatu, Environment Secretary, stated that the event will open up new opportunities for strengthened partnership. He cited the Philippines-Japan partnership in the past years, especially on environmental innovation and waste management policy.

“Unbelievably, our country continues its environmental crises like waste pollution and climate change amid the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic. Cimatu stated that green recovery is possible only through strong global partnerships and collaboration based on shared visions and common goals.
