KOCHI: Prof Madhav Gadgil, an Indian ecologist, stated that the SilverLine project would have an evident and indirect impact on the environment.
“All this will lead to the suffering of the poor. However, the protests of the people will not go unheard, he said.
Gadgil was delivering Monday’s Prof MK Prasad Endowment lecture, which was hosted online by Maharaja’s College. He stated that protests of the people should be respected.
Former chairperson of Kerala’s state biodiversity board, VS Vijayan, stated that the project will have an adverse effect on the water bodies.
When a hectare is lost to a water body, it is estimated that Rs 98 lakh will be lost.
Vijayan stated that he had written to the chief minister stating these facts. He added that he had sent a letter to the chief minister containing these facts but no response from the government.
