Kota: Hemaram Choudhary, the States’ forest, environment, and climate change minister, called for wildlife and environment conservation to stop illegal mining by coordinating with different departments. He was visiting Kota on Sunday for a day-visit. On Sunday, he inaugurated a 7-day exhibition of photos at an art gallery and presided at a meeting with circuit house officials.
Choudhary, during the photo exhibition, stated that efforts would have been made to create a favourable climate with the development of grasslands for GIB as well as to check illegal mining near proposed Sorsan GIB-breeding centre in Baran.
He stated that it was our moral duty to preserve the Great Indian Bustard (GIB), and other species of wildlife that are at risk of extinction.
Choudhary stated that the Chief Minister had not announced a separate budget for the Sorsan breeding Centre, even though he spoke to the media following the viewing. MLA Bharat Sing, who has been involved in the matter for a while, recommended that Choudhary make every effort for the same.
MLA Bharat Singh has organized the exhibition as part a campaign to speed up the establishment of GIB-breeding centre in Sorsan. Singh, the ruling party MLA from Sangod has not been able to attend the ongoing state assembly sessions. This is because Singh’s demands include the cancellation of Sorsan mining leases, the checking of illegal mining activities, and the start of work for GIB center construction.
The exhibition on GIB will feature around 400 pictures of GIB, blackbucks and other wildlife. It aims at raising awareness about the state bird and wildlife. It will be open from 10 AM to 6 AM for visitors.
Ramgarh Tiger Foundation activists filed a memorandum with Choudhary the forest minister, asking for T-115 tigress to be brought to Ranthambore’s Ramgarh Vishdhari wildlife refuge.
They also demanded that the notification regarding the proposed Ramgarh Tiger Reserve in Bundi be passed.
