BAY ST.LOUIS, Miss. (WLOX). Tuesday marked a close to the month-long Mardi Gras celebrations. Hundreds of people lined Bookter Street for Fat Tuesday at Bay St. Louis’ Krewe of Real People Parade.
This is the first Carnival since COVID-19. More than 20 floats were included in the family-friendly parade. The day featured activities such as catching beads and dancing along to music. Real Peoples regulars Victoria Grayer, Regina Franklin, and Victoria Grayer say that this celebration has a lot sentimental value because it reminds of their childhood.
Since my childhood, I have been coming here. Grayer stated that being a child and running up to those floats full of excitement is a great feeling.
Krewe Of Real People is a well-known Carnival attraction located in Bay St. Louis. The parade attracts new visitors every year, even though many have been attending for years. Jamaica Payne has been attending parade for two consecutive years. Her family rents a parade float each year. She said she loves being able to throw beads and share the joy with the community.
It is family-oriented. Bay St. Louis welcomes everybody. Join the Krewe of Real People. It is amazing! It is amazing! Payne said, “You’re going to have a lot of fun here.”
As the floats passed by, neighbors barbecued outside their homes. Grayer said that it is not unusual for community members to get together during this time.
Grayer stated that we are all here for the same reason: to have fun and enjoy each other’s company.
