A phenomenal talent like Kuldeep Yadav required a “positive environment” filled with a lot of “love and attention” to blossom and he got that at Delhi Capitals, head coach Ricky Ponting said.
The left-arm wrist spinner with the left arm, who currently ranks second in the list, has had a rough three-year period. He was confined to the bench by the then-national team management, and also didn’t get enough support from the previous IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.
A major knee operation also ruled him out for last IPL.
“We are really pleased for him, he was one of our main targets in the auction. We are giving him lots of love and attention. He’s a terrific young guy and this talented left-arm leg-spinner really seems to be thriving in this (positive) environment,” Ponting said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.
Kuldeep, at Rs 2 crore, was a bargain for DC management. This was at a time when many franchises were skeptical about how he would do post surgery. He had not played much cricket before.
Kuldeep’s case is an example of how the DC management tried to create a safe environment for Kanpur players. This has allowed him to bowl beautifully.
“We are all pretty wrapped with him and make sure that we keep things in line with him and not let him get too far ahead of himself. And at the moment he’s bowling beautifully.”
