LOS ANGELES (CNS). Los Angeles has the most polluted atmosphere of all 2,400 cities in the United States. A report released Tuesday by an air quality monitoring firm showed that there was a 6% reduction in pollution in 2021 compared the previous year.

According to IQAir’s report, global air pollution has declined to unhealthy levels by 2021. IQAir is a company that monitors global air quality, and sells air-purification products. The report found that pollution levels in every country and 97% cities exceeded the World Health Organization’s guidelines for air quality.

According to the report, India, Chad and Pakistan were the five most polluted nations in 2021. The United States was ranked 90th on this list.
The report stated that although air quality in the United States has improved over 50 years, fine particle pollution has increased by 7% between 2020-2021.
According to the report, the country’s dependence upon fossil fuels, the severity of wildfires and the varying enforcement levels of the Clean Air Act (from administration to administration) have all contributed to U.S. Air pollution. “Nationwide, 264 millions people lived in areas where PM2.5 levels were higher than the WHO annual guideline in 2021.”
The WHO standards for fine particle pollution were met in only 222 of the 6,475 cities analyzed worldwide, according to the report. The guidelines were met by New Caledonia, the French territory of France, and Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands, the United States territories.

Particulate matter is caused by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and fossil gas, as well unsustainable development and agricultural activities. The development of renewable energy resources, clean-powered, accessible public transport are essential to address the air pollution crisis. Air pollution solutions can also solve the climate crisis. Clean, fresh air should be a human right and not a privilege.
