The chairman of Ika North East local government area, Victor Ebonka, has called on residents to embrace government policies on environmental protection and preservation.
Mr Ebonka said this during the excavation and evacuation of refuse heaps at various places in the area.
He stated that the council will continue to protect the LGA’s health and will not compromise its mission to keep it clean.
Our actions today are in line with our commitment to clean the environment. Much has been accomplished in this direction. we will not leave any stone unturned until it becomes part of the people,” explained Mr Ebonka. “We have been able to make the services very affordable. I believe that we are battling with a mentality which has developed over the years.”
He added that though the residents were urged to protect and preserve the environment, some who were “hell-bent on defacing the environment through their illicit activities would be arrested and duly prosecuted.”
The chairman of the council warned residents about the dangers posed to the environment and human health by poor waste management.
