When we work on environmental improvements, such as in our hardware’s, it is not too big. We just announced this past Earth Day, that we have up to twenty percent recycled content in all of our devices. It wasn’t because of me, it was because of my team. “So, I always tell people that it’s my honor to lead it, but there are people all around Apple who are motivated by their work.”

As one of the most important companies in the globe, Apple’s leaders are well aware of the importance their contribution has to the vital protection of the planet.

Lisa says, “We are already carbon neutral and that is a tremendous accomplishment for a company that touches both software and hardware data centres.” “But now it is the 2030 goal. We challenged ourselves and the company to come up with the most aggressive goal to bring our supply chain and our products to 100% carbon neutral and it’s 2030 – when we first came up with the number we were like, ‘We’re crazy!’ But there’s a history of being crazy at Apple!

“The other thing that we challenge ourselves with is the type of innovation that people want in our products. We want them to see that in their environment. The 2030 goal is based on the innovation we are driving within the company and outside of it. It feels very true and authentic to who we are as an organization.”

Lisa acknowledges that the climate crisis is a personal concern. However, this should not discourage people from taking action. “Concern can do either one or both of these things, right?” She asks. “It can paralyse or motivate you to action, in this case leadership.Apple employees are proud to say that they’re applying their innovation to the most pressing crisis facing the planet.

“It motivates everybody like, I have to do some,'” Apple is a company that makes tools that help people do what they want. We also recognize that you need to work at the community level person-to-person.

She said, “The number one thing anyone could do is to be part of the recycled economy.” It’s a major part of our products. The whole trade-in program, which focuses on recycled material use and getting our product back, is a key part of our products.

Apple devices can be recycled in the store. This is the best way to dispose of them. Lisa explained that there are several recycling options. This is part of the natural part that gives you the option to choose the next device. You can trade in or bring your device in. The great thing about this is that if you have access to it and can do so in person, we can wipe it and ensure that your data is deleted from a privacy or security standpoint. This is a top priority for us.

“But if you are unable to send us the instructions, we will send them to you so you can do it yourself and return it to Apple. In Europe you have access to some recycling programs, so there’re a bunch of options, but we prefer to come back to us because all generations of iPhone, I think we’re up to 23 different models can go through [our systems]so we can find a solution to get those materials back.”
